Why will the Simms 2 not install on my computer? - simms and chips

It is a very old, and I noticed that the CD is a DVD-ROM ... Anyway, when I will put the CD in the installation, the computer does not recognize, has even a plate. Is it because my computer is too old? Anyone have any suggestions. PS I have not installed any viruses or spyware.
